HB 3151 Signed by Governor
03/04/2008
HB 3151 was signed by Governor Gregoire on Monday, March 17. This bill adds two years to the "start construction" deadline for the Public Facility District which was requested in order to accommodate the land use process required to build the REQ Center outside of the flood zone in a Master Planned Resort.

A special thank you to Rep. Gary Alexander, the prime sponsor of the bill, Sen. Dan Swecker and Rep. Richard DeBolt of the 20th district. Also sponsoring the bill were Rep. Sam Hunt, Rep. Jim McCune, Sen. Pam Roach and Sen. Marilyn Rasmussen. Thank you to all for your efforts on behalf of The REQ Center - and a special thank you to Rep. Ross Hunter for the "seahorse" endorsement.
Public Supportive in Open Meeting
03/03/2008
The REQ Center and the Master Planned Resort were featured at a public meeting held Feb. 28 at the Lewis County courthouse. A large crowd attended, and was generally supportive of the overall plan. The purpose of the meeting was to allow the general public the opportunity to comment on the proposed environmental impacts. Using the comments as a gauge, attendees were less concerned about the specific impacts as they were about the interrelationships between The REQ, the MPR and the Public Facilities District, public use of tax dollars, and general REQ information.

The public may still comment until March 21 on environmental impacts by responding in writing to Lewis County at Lewis County Community Development , 2025 NE Kresky Avenue, Chehalis, WA 98532.

Disaster Strikes Lewis County
12/06/2007
A massive rain storm swamped the hills of Southwest Washington at the beginning of December and the result was the worst flooding ever recorded in the Centralia-Chehalis area - a disaster mounting in the hundreds of millions of dollars of damage. This came on the heels of a warning in the Chronicle of 11/16/07 (see below).

This terrible event underscores our decision to site The REQ Center out of the flood plain. This decision has created serious land use and zoning issues, which we have been working on diligently. In spite of these challenges we know our decision was the correct one.
